Extensive shoots on the last available Kodachrome stock. Mixing expired ’84 filmrolls with fresh ones, made for a very physical experiment with aesthetics.
A story about the malleability of memory, “Lucia’s Liefde” offered a chance of working with the material which shaped so many memories in the sixties and seventies (the time in which the play is set). Not just the narrative, but the physical medium of memory itself appeared to be subject to change.
A small excerpt from the footage, which was used in a theatre play, has been edited into a ‘teaser’ for the performance. It’s made to look like an authentic ‘home movie’ from the seventies and is cut to the beat of a classic hit to tie these visuals together:
