I’m currently working on a series of (behind-the-scenes) music videos for VanVelzen.

Combining video and Super-8 footage, my goal is to create a lively experience of the production of his new album. Some samples will follow as soon as the clips are released.

Using this same material I’ve also been asked to create the music video for The Rush of Life, the title song of his new album.

From 2008 till 2010 I’ve led the internet activities of Dutch public broadcaster VPRO’s Metropolis by conceptualizing and producing their digital strategy.

From the first website to the latest API-driven system which connects Facebook Apps and possible third-party expansions, I’ve been involved in all Metropolis’ online projects. Also, exploring and optimizing the logistics of a global crossmedia project, has been one of my most demanding tasks: working with creators and their content in 50+ native languages to ultimately cater a global audience with a video platform with dynamic multilingual subtitling is no small feat. These activities have not gone unnoticed: Metropolis has been awarded with several important national and European media prizes for innovation and journalism.

Super-8 footage for play “Lucia’s Liefde”

Extensive shoots on the last available Kodachrome stock. Mixing expired ’84 filmrolls with fresh ones, made for a very physical experiment with aesthetics.

A story about the malleability of memory, “Lucia’s Liefde” offered a chance of working with the material which shaped so many memories in the sixties and seventies (the time in which the play is set). Not just the narrative, but the physical medium of memory itself appeared to be subject to change.

A small excerpt from the footage, which was used in a theatre play, has been edited into a ‘teaser’ for the performance. It’s made to look like an authentic ‘home movie’ from the seventies and is cut to the beat of a classic hit to tie these visuals together:

Misc. super-8 projects

Over the past few years, I’ve done a number of (Super-8) shoots for different projects and clients.

Ranging from small promotional clips for book publishers to large scale collaboration with dozens of filmmakers, musicians, photographers and choreographers on a multi-disciplinary theatre play, I’ve enjoyed working on some very diverse film and video projects since 2005. Developing an interest for Super-8 in 2009, I first used it to create a seventies-like home movie as part of a play and continue to use it today for different projects that really fit the aesthetics of the medium.
